Every parts counter on Milwaukee's south side will pull your codes for free, and that is genuinely useful - it tells you which system is complaining. What it cannot tell you is which part failed. A P0301 misfire on cylinder one is a coil, a plug, an injector, a wiring fault, a vacuum leak or low compression. Six repairs, six prices, and only one of them fixes the car.
We start where the free scan stops. Freeze frame shows the conditions when the fault set. Live data shows what the sensors report right now, under load, not idling in a parking bay. Bidirectional control lets us command a component on and off and watch whether the car actually responds. By the time you get a number, we have proved the failure instead of guessing at it.
A lot of Milwaukee faults only exist below freezing. Rubber shrinks and a vacuum line that seals fine in July leaks in January. Connectors that have spent four winters in salt spray develop resistance you can only find with a voltage drop test, not a scan tool. Batteries that pass a load test at 50 degrees fall on their face at zero and drag every module on the bus down with them.
That means an intermittent winter fault sometimes needs the car cold, and cold means early morning. We will book the appointment for when the fault actually happens rather than when it is convenient, because a no-fault-found visit helps nobody.
Scan tools that talk to every module rather than just the powertrain, because a fault in the body control module can present as an engine problem. A smoke machine, which finds an EVAP or intake leak in ten minutes where a code will only ever describe one. A multimeter and a test light, because voltage drop across a corroded ground is invisible to a scan tool and extremely common on a salted car.
Nearly all of it happens where the car already sits - a driveway in Bay View, a lot behind an office in Wauwatosa, a spot on the street in Riverwest. Some faults need a lift and a full day, and those move indoors. The diagnostic time still comes off the repair either way.
Real repairs, photographed on the job. These are jobs from our wider mechanic network rather than Milwaukee customers — we say so on every page rather than implying otherwise.

$79 flat call-out, diagnostic included, 7 days a week, 7am - 7pm. If you decline the repair that is the whole bill.
