Water gets into a crack, freezes, expands, thaws and leaves a void. Milwaukee does that cycle dozens of times each winter, and by March the result is a city full of edges. Hitting one hard does four things in rough order of likelihood: it damages a tire or bends a wheel, it kills a strut, it knocks the alignment out, and if you were unlucky it bends a control arm or cracks a mount.
The tell-tale is that the car was fine the day before. A gradual decline over a year is wear. A change that happened on one specific afternoon on Capitol Drive is impact damage, and it is worth telling us that when you book - it changes what we look at first.
A clunk over bumps is usually sway bar links first, then strut mounts, then control arm bushings. A wander or a need to constantly correct on the freeway is tie rods, an alignment, or a worn steering rack. A rhythmic hum that changes when you change lanes is a wheel bearing, and the side it goes quiet on is the side that has failed. Uneven tire wear is an alignment consequence, and replacing tires without fixing the cause is buying the same problem twice.
Bounce that will not settle, nose-dive under braking or a car that floats over a dip is shocks and struts. They fail so gradually that most people genuinely do not notice until they drive the car home with new ones fitted.
In a salt-free climate a strut is four bolts. In Milwaukee those four bolts have been marinating in brine for a decade, and on a bad one a subframe bolt shears rather than turns. We plan for that with heat, penetrant and the right extractors, and we build a realistic allowance into the quote instead of surprising you halfway through.
Occasionally a bolt wins. If a job has to move indoors because a fastener has to be drilled and re-tapped, we will tell you at that moment, not at the invoice.
Real repairs, photographed on the job. These are jobs from our wider mechanic network rather than Milwaukee customers — we say so on every page rather than implying otherwise.

$79 flat call-out, diagnostic included, 7 days a week, 7am - 7pm. If you decline the repair that is the whole bill.
